Silk-Wool Scarves: Warm Without Being Heavy
Wool alone is warm but can feel thick and scratchy. Silk alone is soft and light but doesn't hold much heat. A silk-wool blend sits between them.
My silk-wool scarves are 70% wool and 30% silk. The wool gives warmth. The silk makes it smoother, lighter and gives the colors a soft sheen.
In practice, that means:
- Warm enough for fall evenings and cold offices
- Light enough to wear indoors without overheating
- Soft against the neck, not itchy
- Drapes well, so it falls in folds instead of sitting stiff
Even at 52 by 52 inches, it folds down small enough to keep in a bag.
Care is simple. Dry clean only. If you prefer the way it looks after a hand wash, you can carefully hand wash it in cold water and dry it flat.
If you want a scarf for fall that you'll actually wear all day, silk-wool is the one I'd pick.
