Is an Oversized Scarf Too Much If You're Petite?

It doesn't have to be. A 52 by 52 inch scarf is large, but how it looks depends on how you fold it and which fabric you choose.

A few things help on a smaller frame:

  • Choose silk chiffon. It's sheer and light, so even fully draped it doesn't add bulk.
  • Fold it smaller. Fold the square into a long band before you wrap it. Less fabric sits at the neck.
  • Keep it vertical. Wear it open with the ends hanging straight down. Long lines make you look taller, not wider.
  • Avoid big wraps at the neck. Several loops piled up is where it starts to look like too much.

If you want something simpler, the 24 by 24 inch scarves are made for smaller spaces. Tie one at the neck, wear it as a headscarf or knot it on a bag. It's the same artwork in a size that never overwhelms.
