Rare Earth: The Scarf That Looks Like Brooklyn
Rare Earth came from a painting I made with teas that ran toward brown and rust and dark green.
Those are the colors I see a lot of in Brooklyn. Old brick. Oxidized metal. The ground in late fall. Warm but not bright. Settled.
The painting stayed close to what I made. I didn't transform it much in post. What you see on the scarf is close to what was on the paper.
It's the most literal of the designs in that way. The most direct record of what the tea did that day.
It's also the one people hold onto longest. Customers who buy Rare Earth tend to write back. That doesn't happen as often with the other designs.
I don't know exactly why. Something about the colors, I think. They're familiar without being obvious.
