How to Keep a Scarf From Slipping Off Your Shoulders
A scarf draped over the shoulders looks great until it slides off. A few simple fixes keep it in place.
- Pick silk-wool for draping. It has a little more grip than silk chiffon, so it stays put on a sweater or coat.
- Tie the front ends. Drape the scarf over both shoulders and tie the two front ends in a loose knot at your chest.
- Use a pin or brooch. Fasten the two sides together just below the collarbone. It holds the scarf and adds a detail. On silk-wool, use a smooth pin and slide it between the threads gently. The herringbone weave is loose and delicate, and rough or sharp backs can snag it.
- Belt it. Wear a thin belt over the scarf at the waist. The shoulders stay covered and the scarf stays put.
- Fold it in a triangle. A triangle sits more evenly than a square, with the point hanging down your back.
Silk chiffon is beautiful draped too, but it moves more. For chiffon, the knot or the pin works best.
