Rare Earth silk chiffon art scarf worn outdoors.

A Scarf in Muted Fall Colors

Fall clothes are mostly deep and quiet: brown, olive, burgundy, charcoal, black. A scarf in muted colors fits in with them instead of competing.

Muted doesn't mean dull. It means colors that are a little softened, like they've been in the sun. Rust instead of orange. Slate instead of bright blue. Cream instead of white.

Those are the colors of Rare Earth. They didn't come from a color chart. They came from tea. When tea dries on paper, it leaves warm browns and reds, with softer tones at the edges. I didn't choose a fall palette. The tea made one.

That's why the colors feel natural next to wool coats and knitwear. They come from a natural material.

If you want one scarf for the season, choose colors that look like fall rather than colors that shout about it.
