How to Store a Silk Scarf So It Lasts
Share
Silk doesn't need much. It needs to be left alone correctly.
Don't hang it. Hanging stretches the fabric over time, especially along the shoulders of the fold. The weight works against the weave.
Fold it loosely. A single fold, laid flat in a drawer or on a shelf. Not compressed under other things. Silk breathes and it should be allowed to.
Keep it away from direct light. Sunlight fades color. Not quickly, but steadily. A drawer is better than a hook near a window.
If it wrinkles, steam it. Not an iron directly on the fabric. A steamer held a few inches away, letting the moisture do the work. The wrinkles will release.
Store it clean. Oils from skin and product attract moths. If you've worn it, let it air for a day before putting it away.
That's all it takes. A silk scarf kept this way will last longer than most things you own.
