It started as an experiment.

I wanted to know what would happen if I steeped a tea bag and pressed it onto paper. Not for any reason. Just to see.

The mark it left was interesting. More interesting than I expected. The edges were soft where the tea had spread. The center was darker where the bag had sat. There was variation I hadn't put there.

I did it again with a different tea. Then again with the bags arranged differently on the paper.

Each one left something behind that I couldn't have drawn.

That's when I understood what I had. Not a technique. A process. Something that made images I couldn't make any other way.

I've been doing it since 2012.
