Made in Brooklyn: The Art Behind Every Teascarf

There's a question we get asked often: What is a tea print?
The answer starts not with a loom or a dye vat, but with a cup of tea. Teascarf Brooklyn was founded by Brooklyn artist Reed Slater around a simple, accidental discovery — that steeped tea bags, dried on watercolor paper, leave behind something quietly beautiful. The tannins bloom outward. The paper absorbs unevenly. What forms is an abstract, organic image that couldn't be planned or repeated.
That original handmade print becomes the artwork for every scarf and pillow cover we make. It's photographed, transferred onto silk, and produced in Brooklyn — turning a single moment of chance into something you can wear or bring into your home.
What We Make
Every piece in the Teascarf Brooklyn collection begins the same way: a tea print. From there, we offer two signature fabrics for our art scarves:
- 100% Silk Chiffon — airy, sheer, and luminous. Available in 24" and 52" squares.
- Silk-Wool Blend — 70% wool, 30% silk. Soft, warm, and richly textured for year-round wear.
We also make art pillow covers — 18" double-sided covers in original tea-printed designs, handcrafted in New York City.
All of it is designed and produced in Brooklyn. Free shipping on all orders.
A Brooklyn Art Brand
We think of Teascarf Brooklyn less as a scarf company and more as a small art studio that happens to make wearable and home objects. The work starts by hand. The materials are chosen for how they carry color and light. The production stays close to where the ideas begin.
If you're looking for something that holds a real story — not a pattern pulled from a mood board, but an actual print made by an actual person in an actual kitchen in Brooklyn — this is where to start.
