How to Choose a Scarf You'll Actually Wear
Most scarves end up in a drawer. Here is how to buy one you will not put down.
Start with what you already wear
Look at the coats, sweaters, and jackets you actually reach for. What colors are they? A scarf that goes with three things you already own will be worn constantly. A scarf that goes with something you do not have yet is a drawer scarf.
Pick a color that works, not the color you find most beautiful
If your wardrobe is mostly navy, gray, and black, a rust scarf sounds nice until it does not work with anything you are putting on in the morning. A blue scarf sounds boring until it is the thing you grab every day. Buy what matches your clothes, not your mood board.
Get the right size
If you picture yourself with a scarf at your neck, a 24" square is enough. If you picture yourself wrapped in one or wearing it over your shoulders, you need the 52". Buying a 24" and trying to make it drape like a 52" is how scarves go unworn.
Silk-wool for fall and winter. Silk chiffon for the rest.
If your wearing season is October through March, get the silk-wool. It is warm, soft, and the right weight for cold weather. If you live somewhere mild or want something for cooler evenings in spring, silk chiffon is lighter and sheerer.
Get something with a story
You are going to be wearing this in front of people. A scarf that someone asks about is more interesting than one they do not notice. Every Teascarf Brooklyn design starts as an original artwork made in Brooklyn with steeped tea bags on paper.
